64 years after the first two atomic bombs were dropped on civilians in 1945, a group known as The Journey of Repentance from Tacoma, Washington, U.S.A. traveled to Japan in August of 2009 to listen to the stories of the remaining survivors. The reason for their journey is chronicled in the short documentary, FREE WORLD.
FREE WORLD shows us that when we forget the past, we repeat it — but, that if we learn from the past and unite in diversity, there is hope for a nuclear weapon free world.
We invite you to explore this site to better understand the Journey's actions and support the nuclear weapon abolition movement. Please help our peacemaking efforts by making a contribution, buying a dvd, purchasing a screening package, and signing the Global Zero Petitions.
Characters, crew, and story!
The JOR stands for the "Journey of Repentance," the group that is featured in FREE WORLD. The JOR came together in the spring of 2009 and grew to become an 18-person interfaith delegation seeking to interact with the Hibakusha and to learn more about making a world without nuclear weapons. Their social justice activities, individually and collectively, culminated with this trip to Tokyo, Hiroshima, and Nagasaki. It is through their journey and the film FREE WORLD that they hope to inspire others to become involved in learning more about how to resist nuclear weapons.
